Kettering Foundation 2014-15 Centers for Public Life representing Alaska, California, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Tennessee and Virginia.
How We Got Our Start
The San Diego Deliberation Network grew from the Kettering Foundation’s recognition of a San Diego regional cohort made up of seven major academic institutions and two good governance groups in the fall of 2013. United under a common purpose to strengthen civic engagement, SDDN was created. By developing a structure and a mission as a Kettering Foundation 2014-15 Center for Public Life, SDDN advances civil civic dialogue throughout the San Diego region.
Early engagement workAccomplishments during SDDN's first year have included facilitation of two civic dialogues about changing public perception in the community of Chula Vista, facilitation of three student dialogues on substance abuse, and formalizing SDDN's public identity, strategic plans, and infrastructure. In addition, members of the San Diego Deliberation Network have created development plans within their institutions aligning with SDDN's overall mission.
